Which genre should you choose for a personalized song? A guide by relationship type
The least-discussed question when ordering a personalized song is which genre to choose. Pop doesn't work for everyone. The genre has to match the recipient's personality and the type of relationship, otherwise the song sounds generic.
Across the 247+ songs we've created, we've noticed what actually works. Here's a guide based on who you're giving the gift to and what your relationship is.

Quick cheat sheet
- For mom / grandma → Folk or Pop
- For a girlfriend / wife → R&B or Pop ballad
- For a boyfriend / husband → Rock or Pop-rock
- For a friend → Rap (humor) or Disco (for fun)
- For a brother / sister → Rap or Rock
- For a child → Pop ballad
- For a coworker / boss (farewell) → Disco or Rap
- In memory of someone who passed → Pop ballad or Folk
Pop is the safest choice
Pop works for 95% of people. It's warm, melodic, and speaks across generations. We pick it when you don't know what the other person listens to, or when you want a song with a beautiful chorus. Works best for ages 25-65.
"We were choosing for my mom (62) and wanted something between traditional and modern. A pop ballad with a female voice was perfect, she cried at the very first verse."
– Mária, customer
Rock and pop-rock for energetic types
We choose this when the recipient is a rocker (listens to AC/DC, Bon Jovi, hard rock), you want an energetic song rather than a sentimental one. Works best for a man aged 35-55, or for a 30th/40th birthday among friends.
Sexy and romantic R&B
R&B songs are the most poetic. They work great for a wedding anniversary, on Valentine's Day (10× better than a generic pop song), or for a declaration of love before a wedding.

Note: don't choose R&B for an older generation (60+).
Folk and traditional for the older generation
The strongest song for grandma, grandpa, or an older mom (60+). A warm folk melody feels authentic, and wins over even those who never cry.
If you want a compromise, we recommend Pop with folk elements (accordion + pop melody), which works universally.
Rap full of humor and inside jokes
Rap is our secret weapon. It works great when the song needs to be funny, contains 5-10 inside jokes from your friend group, or for a bachelor/bachelorette party with stories from 10 years of friendship.
Disco for a party and dancing
Disco is the least requested, but when it fits, it fits perfectly. We choose it for a 50th/60th birthday (music from their era), for a dance moment by the cake, or for cheerful moms.
A custom genre for those who know what they want
In the configurator you also have the option "Other (write it in the notes)". Use it for:
- Pop ballad with acoustic guitar (Ed Sheeran style)
- Country (younger generation, like Taylor Swift)
- Soul (like Adele)
- Latin (for summer weddings)
Female or male voice?
Rule of thumb: the voice should be the opposite gender of the recipient, it creates the feeling that "someone is singing to me." Exceptions:
- Wedding songs: a female voice works for both genders
- Rap: almost always male, even for a female recipient
- For a child: a female voice (the "mom effect")
